Ahmadinejad Renews Call for Open Debate with US President

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday voiced readiness to attend a public debate with his US counterpart Barack Obama at the United Nations over the root causes of the world problems.
 
 
 

"As I invited the US president to a debate in (my address to) the United Nations during my visit to New York in the past, I repeat my call for a debate (with the US president) to study the root causes of global problems and management and collective participation in (the establishment of) sustainable security and peace," Ahmadinejad told foreign reporters in a press conference at the presidential office here in Tehran today.       ........................... 

Leader: Security, Progress of Afghanistan, Pakistan Important

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed Iran's care and support for the progress and security of its eastern neighbors, urging for more trilateral cooperation in other fields than security and policy.
 
 
 

Speaking in a meeting with Pakistani and Afghan Presidents Asif Ali Zardari and Hamid Karzai, Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated that the three countries should have more cooperation in economic and developmental issues.        .............................

Ahmadinejad Underlines Importanceof Tehran's Tripartite Summit

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad described his meeting with Afghan and Pakistani presidents in a tripartite summit here in Tehran on Sunday as "important", given the sensitive conditions prevailing in the region.
 
 
 

"The meeting among neighbors has always been important, specially under the grave conditions of today that we are under threats and face important regional issues," Ahmadinejad said in his opening address to the Tehran summit, adding that the aforementioned issues have made the meeting even more important than before.

He further appreciated the presidents of Afghanistan and Pakistan Hamid Karzai and Asif Ali Zardari for their participation in the summit to find solutions to regional problems and expand trilateral cooperation.
