Police Official: Ahmadinejad's Swearing-in Held in Tranquility
Iran's Deputy Police Chief Ahmad Reza Radan said on Wednesday that despite enemy provocations, the swearing-in ceremony of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the parliament was held in full tranquility and security.
"In spite of the vast propaganda by satellite channels and foreign media for a gathering in front of the parliament building, no illegal gathering was held there," Radan told .
He also stressed that the police is responsible for maintaining security and tranquility and will make its utmost efforts to this end.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took the oath of office as Iran's new president on Wednesday in front of the country's parliament members.
President Ahmadinejad read his swearing-in statement to parliament deputies based on Article 121 of Iran's Constitution in a special ceremony held in the parliament on Wednesday morning.
Hundreds of senior political figures and military officials as well as foreign ambassadors and representatives to Iran attended the oath-taking ceremony.
The ceremony, which also received a live coverage by the Iranian state-run tv, was covered by hundreds of local and foreign reporters, journalists and photojournalists.
